⏺️Transforming care delivery, including with AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe, used in health and care, is moving ahead rapidly. Read EHTEL’s two implementers’ briefs – short analyses of reports published by WHO Europe and a WHO Working Group. Information too on social robots which are, of course, linked to AI.

Major efforts are being made to transform digital health and care and move forward knowledge, education, training, tools, pilots and MOOC training modules. Here are some of this autumn’s examples:
EHTEL has read for you work by the World Health Organization (WHO) European Region (WHO Europe) over the past months. We’ve synthesised it into two short implementers’ briefs. The two briefs have obvious links to EHTEL’s own work programme activities on transforming care delivery, including with artificial intelligence (AI).
It is a good time to revisit what is happening currently with social robots use in health and care. Start from the work of LIFEBOTS Exchange. Not only has the COMFORTage project now piloted how digital technologies can support the lives of people with dementia and their carers. Furthermore, a Norwegian and Scottish collaboration is co-organising a webinar on the use of robotics in long-term care.
Hospitals on FHIR provides a pragmatic, peer-driven platform for healthcare delivery organisations to share real-world experiences, software architectures, and lessons learned in adopting HL7 FHIR as a core data exchange layer. HL7 Fast Health Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a specification for health interoperability.
To drive digital transformation forward, EHTEL member, Monasterio is actively participating in major European initiatives – including xShare, i2X, and XiA – while proudly chairing the flagship Hospitals on FHIR European community. Monasterio outlines how, with these four initiatives, it is helping to build the foundations of a connected European healthcare ecosystem.
Eighteen months in, EQUICARES continues to aim at improving mental health access for people in vulnerable situations with digital tools and resources. The tools include an interactive mental health pilot, Atlas, and, in development, an AI Assistant. These instruments are to help identify, analyse, monitor, and address barriers to mental health services.
The education and training of digital health specialists must keep pace with the rapid evolution of digital health. Significant gaps remain to be tackled. They include the lack of internationally harmonised curricula and comparable qualifications. To address these challenges, EHTEL has joined the Master of Digital Health (MDH) Alliance.
THCS WP4 has established a learning network for experts testing the THCS Framework for supporting transferability and implementation of practices. On 16 September 2026 it will host the second webinar for projects interested in sharing their solutions through the THCS Knowledge Hub.
The COMFORTage project invites organisations interested in strengthening innovation in services, environments and technologies supporting active and healthy ageing during the life course to participate in the COMFORTage Twinning Programme. Apply before 3 October 2026.
The EHDS is moving from policy to implementation. Making this vision a reality requires more than technical specifications—it requires the experience, insights and collaboration of the people and organisations who will ultimately implement and use it. Completing an i2X survey will absolutely act as a first step to help with this!
